"The idea of group tours is repellent to me, but with Doug and Peggy the group is small and intimate. Yes, there is a schedule, but flexible enough to be accommodating. “I was with Peggy and Doug in Michoacan the summer of 2005. It was an eventful trip, going from one village to another to talk with artisans Doug and Peggy knew personally. I am no stranger to Mexico, and I can truthfully say that they have a remarkable understanding of the geography and culture of this region. They not only knew the out of the way places where extraordinary artesania was to be found, they were welcomed with open arms into the homes of the humble craftspeople who create it. At times I felt a deep spirit of love and friendship on these visits. The artisans, many of whom spoke the indigenous language, took us into their homes and shared their stories. They struggle, but their self-respect and belief in their artwork was written on their wrinkled faces. As a Mexican American I am proud of Peggy and Doug’s work, and am grateful that they included me."
