San Francisco Bay Area bilingual teachers and Mexican folk art collectors, Peggy Stein and Doug Wheeler, lead small groups on  Mexico By Hand “insiders" folk art and culture tour of the beautiful and fascinating state of Michoacán in Mexico’s central highlands.

• Travel through the beautiful countryside, stopping in small villages to visit workshops where you will see master artisans making traditional crafts with clay, copper, wood, textiles, and more… Participants will be able to converse with the artisans with the assistance of knowledgeable, bilingual guides and purchase folk art and crafts directly from the artisans.
• Tour historic and cultural sites, visit markets, and attend dance and music performances in the beautiful colonial city of Morelia.
• Stay in charming colonial hotels and eat the best authentic regional cuisine in both elegant and rustic settings.
• Enjoy a local Purepecha Indian village festival (not listed in the tour books) and experience the warmth and magic of “real Mexico".

• We can also arrange for Spanish language classes with a top quality Mexican teacher and homestays with a Mexican family to enhance the learning experience.
