Mexico By Hand features unique high quality folk art by award-winning artisans from the Mexican state of Michoacán. Through Mexico By Hand, consumers in the United States now have the opportunity to purchase exquisite traditional and innovative handmade crafts made from clay, copper, and wood not found anywhere else. From fine ceramic bowls and pots…to elegant hand-hammered copper vases…to whimsical clay figures - we offer truly unusual, one of a kind handmade gifts and accessories that will beautifully adorn any home.
The Mexican state of Michoacán is a region with more than 100,000 artisans, from more than 200 communities, who have been producing the most diverse selection of high quality artesanía or folk art found anywhere in the world. Since before the arrival of the Spanish conquerors, Purepecha or Tarascan Indians in Michoacan have been creating beautiful crafts out of wood, clay, copper, plant fiber, and textiles. The artesania is recognized to be a major part of the state’s cultural and historical identity, but unfortunately the artisans, most of whom are women, struggle to continue their rich artistic tradition and earn enough to feed their families. Mexico By Hand hopes to elevate the lives of artisans and their communities by promoting their work beyond the borders of Mexico. Your purchase will support that effort, and at the same time enhance your home, bringing you enjoyment for years to come.
