ECO-FRIENDLY MEXICAN COPPER ART
Mexico By Hand’s copper products are eco-friendly and sustainably produced from 100% recycled copper material. Our hammered copper is handcrafted by master artisans in the village of Santa Clara del Cobre in Michoacán, Mexico.
Each copper piece is made from recycled copper, eliminating the use of mined resources, and benefiting the environment. The copper is heated in a bonfire made with pine wood scraps. The flame, ash and soot from this process produces a rich chestnut heat patina finish. This bonfire method is chemical-free. No chemicals are used to achieve the patina. No molds are used. The artists individually craft each piece by hand, hammered from a single lump of copper.
Got copper?
Because copper is in short supply, the price of the artisan’s raw material is increasing dramatically, and sometimes not available at all. Mexico By Hand is attempting to aid this artisan village, which for hundreds of years has been depending on this craft in order to sustain their families, by bringing the artisans reclaimed copper that is discarded in the United States.
“COPPER-ATION?....HOW YOU CAN HELP:
If you have access to copper scrap and would like to be part of this project, please contact us. The artisans can use copper wire (uncoated), pipe, and copper sheet. In exchange for your contribution, you will receive beautiful copper art or sinks.
